PS5 Software Issue — Error code CE-108262-9

Wondering why your console keeps freezing, crashing or why you keep receiving the ‘Error code CE-108262-9’ message on your PS5?

As frustrating as it is, fear not – it’s likely a software issue. Meaning it should be easier to fix with an update by Sony. Whilst the team at Sony are working hard on providing updates to repair these bugs, there’s a few tasks gamers experiencing this issue can perform to help alleviate the issue in the meantime.

1. Update your console’s firmware to the latest version

Although there were some similar issues in the first few months following on from the PS5’s release, Sony has since released a couple of hotfixes to try and resolve these random shutdowns if they’re caused by the firmware. If you play online and your PS5 is connected to the internet, chances are you already have the latest firmware version since Sony will prompt you to do so if you want to play online.

Even if you previously disabled the auto-updating function, you should still be able to update your PS5’s firmware directly from your console’s User Interface.

To do this, press the PS button on your PS5 DualSense controller to bring up the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. From there, select Downloads / Uploads

ree

In the Downloads / Updates menu, select Downloads / Copies (from the menu on the left), then select Update System Software from the menu on the right.

ree

At the next menu, select Update, then confirm the operation and wait until the new update version is installed.

Once the operation is complete, your console will prompt you to restart. Do as instructed, then see if the issue is fixed at the next system startup and see if you’re still experiencing random shutdowns.

2. Disable HDMI Device Link (if applicable)

Reportedly, your PS5 console crashing can be as a result of having your HDMI Device Link option enabled on your console. Essentially this means that any HDMI-connected device is capable of shutting off your PS5 console while you’re in the midst of gaming. If this scenario is applicable and you’re willing to disable the HDMI device link feature, follow the instructions below:

Return to the PS5 home screen and access the settings menu from the top-right corner of the screen.

ree

Inside the settings menu, access the system menu from the list of available options.

ree

There, select HDMI using the vertical menu on the left, then move to the right-hand side and make sure the toggle associated with Enable HDMI device link is disabled

Then, ensure the HDCP toggle is Enabled. Both settings should now reflect the below screenshot.

ree

Next, restart your console and once it’s booted back up, attempt to use it as normal; all the while checking to see whether the issue returns or if it’s resolved.

3. Disable Rest Mode

If you only encounter these random shutdowns while your console is in idle mode (you’re not actively playing anything), chances are you’re experiencing this behaviour due to an aggressive rest mode feature. This issue is more likely to occur when rest mode has been set to kick in as early as possible.

From the PS5 home screen, access the settings menu from the top-right corner of the screen.

ree

Inside the settings menu, access the system menu from the list of available options. Within the system sub-menu, select power saving from the vertical menu on the left-hand side. There, move to the right-hand side and select set time until PS5 enters rest mode.

ree

Then, set the drop-down menus of During Media Playback and While Playing Games, to Don’t Put in Rest Mode.

ree

Return to the previous menus to save the changes, then use your console normally and see if the problem is now fixed.

4. Get in contact with PlayStation support

If you’ve gone through all the potential fixes above and you’re still seeing the same issues, then you’ve unfortunately burned through the conventional fixes that a user can use to resolve this problem.

At this point, the only other option would be to contact PlayStation Support on their Customer Support Line in your region and seek advice for further trouble-shooting/advice.

We hope this Article helps!
